Retirement community welcomes first residents

Brightview Commons of South Kingstown, Rhode Island?s newest retirement community, celebrated its opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. Since welcoming its first 25 residents, it has leased more than 40 percent of the available apartment homes.
?We have been given great support from so many people since breaking ground over 12 months ago,? said Phil Golden, president of Brightview Senior Living, which owns and manages Brightview Commons. ?The building is just a building until the residents arrive, and together with our staff, the building becomes a home.?
Lt. Gov. Elizabeth H. Roberts was among the event?s keynote speakers.
?It?s very important that seniors in Rhode Island have as many choices as possible as they and their families make decisions about their homes,? she said. ?I know from personal experience how challenging these situations can be on families. Brightview Commons will help make these choices easier and provide a wonderful new living option for older Rhode Islanders.?
