Rhode Island has been selected as one of only three locales across the country to participate in a national economic development-marketing program underwritten by Verizon. The Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation will be the lead agency on the project and work closely with city and town officials to complete the program.
“The strength of the Region of Choice Program is that it will give Rhode Island an important business recruitment tool while demonstrating the value and important role of public/private partnerships in our economic strategy,” said Tom Schumpert, executive director of the RIEDC. “We look forward to working with Verizon representatives and the entire state to produce high-quality marketing materials showcasing the state’s assets and promoting Rhode Island as a premiere locale for starting or expanding a business.”

The program is expected to take about six months. The marketing materials will include a videotape highlighting the state’s business environment and complementary collaterals such as brochures, new graphic design, and direct mail items. Verizon will produce the video and printed support materials. Filming is scheduled for June.
“Rhode Island not only fit all of the criteria for selection but because of its size, we have the opportunity to promote an entire state through the Region of Choice program,” said Donna Cupelo of Verizon. “We are delighted to be working with the Economic Development Corporation on this project on behalf of the entire state.”
