RIPTA names Charles Odimgbe CEO

PROVIDENCE – Charles Odimgbe will become the head of the Rhode Island Transit Authority as the CEO, a newly-created position, on Dec. 6.

“In Charles Odimgbe we were fortunate to find a transit professional who both shares the vision contained in Transit 2020 and has the hands-on experience to help RIPTA achieve those goals,” said John Rupp, board chairman. The previous top executive of RIPTA was Alfred J. Moscola, general manager.

Odimgbe is leaving his position as the general manager for Veolia Transportation, operating the Savannah, Ga., transit system for the Chatham Area Transit Authority.

He hopes to make RIPTA the “one-stop shop” for public transportation and hopes to streamline operations and reduce the work force over time through attrition.
