The Rhode Island Technology Council is gearing up for the RITEC Venture 2003 Forum and the $50,000 Rhode Island Business Plan competition.
The business plan competition will start in January and continue until the winner is announced at the Venture 2003 event, set for June 11-12. Organizers say the annual forum has evolved from a small showcase for local entrepreneurs into a broader investment event, providing opportunities for banking, legal and financial-services organizations as well as for venture-capital and angel-investor communities.

Cliff Dutton, managing director of Providence River Group, and Jay McNally of Ibis Consulting Inc., are the co-chairmen of RITEC Venture 2003. Garrett Hunter of the Business Development Co. of Rhode Island will co-manage the $50,000 business plan competition with Dutton.
The 2002 competition, won by Narragansett’s FarSounder Inc., attracted business plans from more than 80 businesses from seven states, which were judged over a five-month period. Applicants can be located anywhere, but to be eligible to win, firms must agree to establish operations in Rhode Island if they have not already.
