Robert L. Carothers, president of the University of Rhode Island, has
been named a recipient of the 2003 Robert M. Goodrich Distinguished Public Service
Award. He has initiated a series of changes to the University’s structure, infrastructure
and curriculum. During Carothers tenure, the University has increased enrollment
in the state and region, improved the physical campus environment, increased
diversity among students and faculty, and enhanced levels of alumni, corporate
and state support.
