NEW BEDFORD – Seacoast Financial Services Corp., the holding company for CompassBank and Nantucket Bank, has completed its fourth stock repurchase program of 1,194,284 shares at an average price of $20.64 per share, the company said in a statement.
Seacoast also announced that it has received authorization to begin another stock repurchase program of 2.6 million shares, or about 10 percent of its common stock as of Aug. 14, 2003. The repurchase program is the company’s fifth since its mutual-to-stock conversion in November 1998, Seacoast said.
Shares will be repurchased through open market or negotiated transactions and Seacoast will hold them as treasury shares, the company said. The timing of the transactions will depend on market conditions and other company strategies and Seacoast will make them at their discretion, the company said.

Kopin licenses patents from North Carolina State University
TAUNTON – Kopin Corp., a developer of nano-engineered semiconductor components including microdisplays, high-brightness light-emitting diodes (LEDs) and transistors for mobile applications, announced that it has exclusively licensed a patent on Domain Epitaxy and two patents on cubic Zinc-Magnesium-Oxide and Zinc-Cadmium-Oxide from North Carolina State University, the company said in a statement.
The patents can be used to produce LEDs and lasers of any color within the visible spectrum, including the three primary colors needed for white LEDs, Kopin said. Licensing the patents will strengthen the company’s portfolio, and add a competitive advantage in developing high-brightness, high-efficiency LEDs, according to Dr. John C.C. Fan, Kopin’s founder and CEO.
Professor Jagdish Narayan and his team at North Carolina State University developed all three patents.
