Seacoast earnings down, declares quarterly dividend

NEW BEDFORD – Seacoast Financial Services Corp., the holding company for CompassBank and Nantucket Bank, reported a net income of $9.7 million for the third quarter, compared with $9.3 million, for the third quarter last year.



Earnings per share dropped slightly from 40 cents per diluted share for the third quarter in 2002, to 38 cents per share for this year’s third quarter, the company said in a statement. Net income was $20 million, or 84 cents per share for this year-to-date and $27.4 million or $1.17 per share for the same period in 2002.



Seacoast said that its 2003 year-to-date earnings have been negatively impacted by the settlement with the Massachusetts Department of Revenue of $5.9 million for additional state taxes.

The board of directors also announced a quarterly dividend of 13 cents per share, payable Nov. 21, to shareholders of record on Nov. 7.


 



Baker Books celebrates grand opening



FALL RIVER – Baker Books recently celebrated the grand opening of its store in Fall River’s historic downtown district, in the old Cherry & Webb building. The bookstore will serve UMass Dartmouth’s continuing education students and members of the local community.



According to the Fall River Office of Economic Development, the bookstore leased 1,400 square feet of ground floor space in the revitalized building, opposite Café Arpeggio.
