Federal Reserve Chairman Alan Greenspan suggested Tuesday
that U.S. economic growth is poised to accelerate in the second
half.
“What we have is the makings of a turnaround in economic
activity which in the past has almost always been signaled by an
improvement in financial conditions,” the Fed chairman said.

“Our members feel the economy is growing faster than it has
been,” said Ralph Kauffman, chairman of the institute’s non-
manufacturing committee. In the first quarter, the economy grew
1.9 percent at an annual rate.
