Several Mr. Potato Heads going on the block

PAWTUCKET — Several of the 47 Mr. Potato Head statues that have been planted
around the state over the last year will be auctioned simultaneously by the Rhode
Island Web site, oso.com and the national commercial sales site, Ebay.com, the
Rhode Island Tourism Division announced. Some of the six-foot high spuds that
will be auctioned include the Bishop potato, that has decorated the lawn of the
Episcopal Cathedral of St. John on North Main Street in Providence, the Common-Tater,
a potato version of Art Lake, a broadcaster for many years for WJAR/NBC 10 and
radio and sand-skin version created by American Power Conversion in Rhode Island
beach sand. A portion of the proceeds will be donated to Kids Café, a hunger
relief program for needy school children, the Tourism Division announced.
