Sovereign Bank opens office at University Heights

PROVIDENCE — Sovereign Bank has opened its University Heights office, the first
bank it has built in the state. Sovereign, based in Pennsylvania, acquired several
BankBoston branch offices after the Fleet-BankBoston merger last year. The bank
is located in the University Heights Shopping Center, which is being rebuilt and
renovated. Sovereign also announced a $10,000 grant to the Housing Network of
Rhode Island as part of its Spirit of Your Neighborhood campaign.
