CHELMSFORD — Sycamore Networks has announced it is laying off 140 workers. The
optical networking company also announced that it was reducing its earnings forecast
for this quarter to $50 million to $60 million, which is $100 million below forecasts.
Sycamore blamed the fall-off on carriers who were abandoning plans to upgrade
their systems as well problems with a supplier which made it impossible to get
enough components for one of its high-end products for shipment this quarter.
