PROVIDENCE – The Providence Journal’s Web site, projo.com, has been down since about 7 a.m. this morning.
“It’s not known when the site will be back online,” Tim Barmann, a former reporter who now works in the newspaper’s online operation, wrote in a midmorning post on the paper’s blog. He did not say if the paper knows what has caused the problem.

Pamela Reinsel Cotter, an online producer at The Journal, wrote on her Twitter feed that the problem was “in Dallas’ hands.” The Journal is owned by Dallas-based A. H. Belo Corp. For a period during the afternoon, projo.com was loading only a tiny digital image.
Barmann said The Journal’s reporters can still post to the paper’s blogs because they are hosted on different servers. However, the blog sites also were loading slowly around noon, possibly because some of their design content is hosted on projo.com servers.
