Chuong V. Nguyen, formerly of Woonsocket, has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for not paying to the government $557,180 in taxes that he had withheld from clients of his Woonsocket temporary employment agency.
Nguyen had been running the agency out of his home, from 1996 to 2002, and telling client companies that he would take care of their payroll taxes, workers compensation and liability insurance.

But he admitted to an IRS agent that he had kept the money, and had gambled with most of it. In June, he pled guilty to “failing to pay over federal withholding taxes.”
Nguyen is scheduled to report to prison on Nov. 13. He also has been ordered to file amended tax returns and pay any taxes that he owes, and to refrain from gambling.
