Teradyne to buy GenRad

BOSTON — Teradyne, Inc. of Boston has agreed to buy Westford-based GenRad, Inc.
for $263 million in stock and assumed debt, the Boston Globe reported. GenRad
has 1,300 employees worldwide and makes gear for testing printed circuit boards.
GenRad recently released its quarterly earnings showing a loss of 48 cents per
share, compared to a 6 percent profit for the same period a year ago. Revenues
were down from $87.3 million to $54.5 million. Teradyne is the nation’s largest
making of semiconductor testing gear, with revenues last year of some $3 billion.
