Textron wins award for philanthropy

ALEXANDRIA, Va. — The Association of Fundraising Professionals has named Textron
as the outstanding philanthropic corporation for 2001. The award was presented
to Textron at the organization’s International Conference on Fundraising in San
Diego, Calif. In 2000 Textron, Inc. contributed more than $6.8 million to nonprofit
organizations around the world. Since 11986, Textron has contributed $1 million
to the development and support of the Textron Chamber of Commerce Academy in Providence,
the state’s first public charter school. Moreover, Textron has employed many students
in after-school jobs at its Providence headquarters. The award has beaen given
annually since 1980 to individuals and organizations “whose contributions and
dedication to philanthropy have made a significant impact on society.” The Outstanding
Corporation award, given this year to Textron, recognizes the corporation or corporate
foundation “that demonstrates extraordinary and innovative commitment to philanthropy
through financial support and encouragement and motivation of others to take leadership
roles in philanthropy.”
