T.F. Green reflects on historic year

The final numbers for 2005 have been recorded and they reflect the busiest year ever in terms of passenger traffic for T.F. Green Airport. The nearly 5.8 million passengers were a 4 percent increase over last year and about three million more passengers than the previous record set in 2001.

“This is great news for T.F. Green and for Rhode Island,” said Governor Donald L. Carcieri. “These record breaking passenger levels demonstrate that T.F. Green is an attractive place to fly to and from with regular service to destinations across the country,” he said.

Mark Brewer, president and CEO of the Rhode Island Airport Corporation, said, “We expect 2006 will be challenging as some carriers are reducing capacity throughout their systems, but we will continue to work with our airlines to improve service levels at Green.”

Scott Avedisian, Mayor of Warwick, said, “While we have our differences, economic viability at T.F. Green is good for the state of Rhode Island and good for the economic development of the city of Warwick.”
Low-fare leader Southwest continues to serve the majority of the passengers on jet flights – 52 percent – with US Airways in second at about 16 percent of total jet flight passengers.

A $76 million, 18 month terminal renovation project is slated to begin in February.
