TJX Companies’ February same store sales decrease 1 percent

FRAMINGHAM, MASS. — TJX Companies, Inc., an off-price retailer which operates T.J. Maxx, Marshalls, Home Goods, A.J. Wright, Winners and T.K. Maxx stores, saw February’s same store sales decline by one percent compared to the same period last year. The dollar amount of February 2001 sales compared to February 2000 sales was not available.

Overall, sales at TJX stores rose 7 percent to $647 million, compared to $605 million during the year-ago period. Last month, TJX announced plans to expand its store base to 1,666 stores by the end of the fiscal year. It ended the last fiscal year with 1,493 stores.
