The TJX Companies, Inc. today reported May 2002 sales results. Sales for the four-week period ended June 1, 2002 were $884 million, up 12 percent over $789 million achieved during the same four-week period ended June 2, 2001. For the seventeen weeks ended June 1, 2002, sales reached $3,594 million, an increase of 16 percent over last year’s $3,110 million. Consolidated comparable store sales for the four-week period ended June 1, 2002 increased 3 percent over last year. For the seventeen-week period ended June 1, 2002, consolidated comparable store sales increased 6 percent.
Edmond J. English, president and CEO of The TJX Companies, Inc. said he was pleased that the company achieved a 3 percent comparable store sales increase despite the unseasonably cool weather in many parts of the country.
