NEWPORT – TowerStream has selected Milpitas, Calif.-based Aperto Networks to provide last-mile access solutions for fixed wireless broadband provider TowerStream throughout the Northeast U.S. Aperto’s flagship system, PacketWave, is being deployed in all existing and new TowerStream POP and subscriber locations. The carrier, in operation across the Boston metro area and in greater Rhode Island since 2000, is expanding its service territory in numerous Northeastern U.S. metropolitan areas.

Verizon donates $100,000 to RITEC
PROVIDENCE – Donna Cupelo, president of Verizon of Massachusetts and Rhode Island, recently presented a check for $100,000 to the Rhode Island Technology Council to support the group’s Academy of Information Technology Program, which is operated in conjunction with the National Academy Foundation.
The presentation was made on May 15 at the Johnson and Wales University Academic Center.

Tech III career fair set
PROVIDENCE – TECH CORPS RI will hold its third annual Grrl Tech event on Wednesday (May 29) from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Johnson & Wales University. The goal of the event is to raise the awareness of high school girls and their teachers to the possibilities of careers in the sciences and technology industries.
The fair will include a panel of women speakers form the technology field to discuss the successes they have had, the skills they needed and the challenges they faced in their jobs. Also, participants will have an opportunity to participate in hands-on demonstrations conducted by business and college representatives, such as robotics, engineering, and chemistry.
The fair is sponsored by Textron, Inc.
