Local 12431 of the United Steelworkers Union of America have voted to reject the offer the New England Gas Company made for a new contract.
In response to this action, the company has made an interim offer that would maintain wages and health care benefits for union members and their families. The interim offer would allow the union to keep working as negotiations continue.

Should the union reject the interim offer, the company is prepared to temporarily reassign a portion of the work normally performed by the Union’s 247 members. Local 12431 provides construction and maintenance services for the portion of New England Gas Company’s operating area previously serviced by Providence Gas Company.
