URI gets $1.8 million to study transportation

U.S. Sen. Jack Reed (D-RI) announced Dec. 3 that the University of Rhode Island’s University Transportation Center (URITC) will receive $1.8 million in matching funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation.

The URITC is one of 33 transportation centers funded by the USDOT to conduct combined programs of research, education and technology transfer.

“This funding will help the URITC to continue to conduct research on important transportation issues and maintain its ability to provide quality education,” Reed said in a press release from his office.

The center, established in 1999, specializes in surface intermodal transportation systems and advanced transportation infrastructure.
