KINGSTON, R.I. — The Industrial Relations Research Association has presented University of Rhode Island Professor Scott Molloy with its first Excellence in Education award in labor history.
According to the university, Molloy, a former RIPTA employee who earned his doctorate from Providence College while he worked as a bus driver, was selected based on teaching philosophy, innovation, quality of materials, and the ability to inspire students to a love of the subject.

Molloy was named teacher of the year by the URI Foundation in 1995. He founded the Rhode Island Labor History Society in 1987, serving as its president for 11 years. He also was president of the Rhode Island chapter of the Industrial Research Relations Association, and is active in the Woonsocket Museum of Work and Culture, the Heritage Harbor Museum in Providence, and the R.I. Irish Famine Memorial, URI officials said.
