The U.S. Navy has awarded a $20.9-million contract to Lockheed Martin Maritime Systems and Sensors for production of the Advanced Deployable System (ADS), including about $6.7 million in work to be done in Portsmouth, R.I.
ADS is a ship-deployable undersea surveillance system designed for data processing, evaluation and reporting, according to U.S. Senator Lincoln Chafee, whose office announced the contract.

The deal calls for Lockheed Martin to complete technology development and provide the ADS program office with design and system engineering for an ADS variant to be deployed by a type of combat ship. Options for system development and demonstration could bring the cumulative value of the contract to $239 million, Chafee said.
