U.S. retail sales fell 0.3% vs prior month

U.S. Retail same store sales for the week ended July 20 fell 0.3 percent from a month ago,
according to the Instinet Research Redbook weekly sales report.

Sales at stores open at least a year, or same-store sales,
rose 2.6% from the same week a year earlier, the report said.

Same-store sales are considered the best measure of a
retailer’s results because they exclude the effect of store
openings and closing in the past year.
