Verizon’s earnings increase for quarter, year 2000

NEW YORK — Verizon Communications reported an 11.1 percent increase in fourth quarter earnings, to $1.9 billion, or $0.70 per diluted share, from $1.7 billion, or $0.63 per share for the same period a year ago.

The company’s quarterly revenues increased from $15.8 billion for the same period last year, to $16.9 billion this year, according to reports. The company’s wireless division added a net 1.2 million new customers in the fourth quarter, or 5.9 percent more net additions than during the fourth quarter of 1999, reports said.

The company reported earnings of $11.8 billion, or $4.31 per share, for the year, a 45.1 percent increase from $8.3 billion, or $2.97 per share a year ago.
