Warwick Inskip plans $25M upgrade

UnitedAuto Group Inc., which acquired Inskip Auto in April, announced today a $25 million expansion of its operations in Rhode Island, including the construction of several new dealership facilities in Warwick. The project will also involve the renovation of some existing buildings and the construction of a new parking area and roadway improvements.

UnitedAuto Group Executive Vice President Roger S. Penske Jr., Gov. Don Carcieri and Warwick Mayor Scott Avedisian were on hand for the press conference at the State House to announce the project.

“This expansion will put Rhode Island on the road to becoming known throughout the region as a driving force for world-class car options,” Carcieri said. “This (project) will mean an expanded work force at Inskip and more construction jobs for our state. Additionally, it will bolster the tax base in Warwick and West Warwick.

The construction plan will be completed in phases with the majority of the construction occurring in 2004 and 2005. Upon completion, three new buildings – totaling nearly 139,000 square feet – will be used for the Lexus, BMW and Mercedes-Benz dealerships. An existing building on-site will undergo substantial renovations and will provide another 139,000 square feet of space to serve as headquarters for the Acura, Audi, Bentley, Infiniti, Maserati, Porsche and Volvo dealerships.
