Kristen DiSanto, the Westerly-based bank’s senior executive vice president and chief human resources officer, said it took fruit because a few employees “were passionate about gardening.” Conversations about creating a gardening group then began, and soon after, a “big group of people got together,” she said.
But the gardening club is just one example of the supportive community that Washington Trust aims to foster among its employees. Whether it’s encouraging folks to join an employee resource group, volunteering, or participating in a walk with the Gloria Gemma Breast Cancer Resource Foundation, DiSanto says the company has built a wellness program that’s around 20 years old.
“What we want to do is create an environment that’s supportive on a lot of different levels,” DiSanto said.
