The Rhode Island Free Clinic moved Saturday to the third floor of the Hindle Building, at 655 Broad St., South Providence.
The new facility is nearly three times as large as the clinic’s former space in the building’s basement.

The move was accomplished with the aid of about 50 volunteers – including staff, patients, Boy Scouts, local college students and representatives of some of the clinic’s many corporate and community sponsors – who assembled nearly 400 boxes of new furniture.
The Rhode Island Free Clinic, a nonprofit organized in 1999 to address the needs of the state’s uninsured, is staffed by more than 200 volunteers and funded solely by charitable donations. It provides free primary medical care and low-cost or no-cost medications and diagnostic and specialty services to nearly 1,700 patients.
The clinic also serves as a training site for medical residency programs at Rhode Island Hospital, Memorial Hospital, and Women & Infants Hospital. Its corporate partners include Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island, Citizens Bank, The Rhode Island Foundation and The Corporation for National and Community Service, which has placed two VISTA volunteers at the clinic.
