Bank of America held an official opening Oct. 12 at its new $60-million call center in East Providence, reaffirming plans to hire up to 900 people to staff the facility, according to a company statement.
The call center takes up the renovated Monet jewelry plant at 3400 Pawtucket Ave., said Ernesto C. Anguilla, a bank spokesman. The facility is currently staffed by more than 300 workers, many of whom were hired from recent job fairs.

Anguilla said the bank is taking applications for more available positions, with plans to hire 700 to 900 people to staff the call center by next May.
The bank now has 28 call centers in the U.S., two of which are in Rhode Island. In addition to the East Providence facility – which began taking customer-service calls two weeks ago – the bank operates a call center in Lincoln that fields calls from brokerage clients and customers with large accounts.
Anguilla noted that the new facility is linked to a “sophisticated” telephone system that directs calls from customers nationwide to call centers based on the number of open phone lines.
The bank has retail branches in 29 states and the District of Columbia.
Construction of the new call center is ongoing. By January, Anguilla said, the East Providence facility will include a 140-seat cafeteria, fitness center and game room for employees.
“This is a very proud day for Bank of America and we are thrilled to create these jobs in southern New England,” said Anne M. Finucane, global corporate affairs executive and Northeast president for Bank of America, in a statement.
“This grand opening represents a substantial investment, with the community and our customers coming out as winners,” she added.
