Gasoline prices in Rhode Island have set a new record, with self-serve, regular unleaded averaging $2.19 per gallon this week, up three cents from last week and 28 cents from six weeks ago, according to the latest AAA Southern New England survey.
A year ago, self-serve unleaded regular was $1.77 per gallon, AAA said.

Last week, the U.S. Energy Department predicted a national average gasoline price of $2.36 per gallon by May, citing continuing high crude oil prices and strong consumer demand. Today, gasoline nationally has increased to $2.28, AAA said. Prices in Rhode Island have now risen for six weeks in a row.
AAA continues to find a wide range of prices, from $2.06 to $2.28 for regular self-serve gasoline, $2.16 to $2.43 for mid-grade, $2.30 to $2.53 for premium, and $2.36 to $2.53 for diesel.
