As economists and businessmen and women look to the future growth of Rhode Island’s economy they universally agree that the potential for continued expansion is linked to the state’s ability to support and help grow knowledge-based businesses in a regional economy. Chief among advocates of this theory has been the Economy Policy Council, the public-private partnership formed by Gov. Lincoln Almond at the outset of his administration to develop goals, direction and policy that guide the state’s economic development.
In this issue of Providence Business News we present the council’s outline of its regional position initiative, an elaborate diagram of where the council sees our economy today and how it can and must grow within a regional context. Turn to pages 19-21 to get a full view of the council’s initiative.
