AmNet office to open in Warwick

SAN DIEGO, Calif. – American Mortgage Network (AmNet) announced Feb. 5 that it has opened a new regional center in Warwick to serve the mortgage-broker community.

The office is expected to employ 10 mortgage-banking professionals, according to AmNet, which is a subsidiary of American Residential Investment Trust Inc. The strong real estate market in Rhode Island, and the Northeast generally, prompted AmNet to open a Rhode Island office, said Jon Lucas, who has been appointed production manager for the new center.

AmNet funded $4.2 billion in mortgages during 2002 and has regional centers across the country, including an office in New Haven, Conn.

Bill would require closer
inspection of electric wires, poles

PROVIDENCE – A bill now before the House Corporations Committee would require Rhode Island electric companies to regularly inspect and report on the condition of power equipment such as transmission lines, utility poles and meters.

Rep. John Patrick Shanley, a South Kingstown Democrat, who submitted the legislation, says parts of the state’s electric grid are more than 50 years old and pose a threat to residents and a higher risk of power failures. The bill would authorize the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers to order the companies to perform maintenance when necessary.

The bill also would require electric companies to provide to state regulators with regular reports on the number of power outages per zip code.
