WEST KINGSTON – APC has two new tools for data-center management, the Capacity Manager and Change Manager software modules.
They join the InfraStruXure Central monitoring platform to make APC “the first and only company integrate the three essential elements of data-center design, operations and management in one platform in order to optimize both efficiency and effectiveness,” APC said.
Capacity Manager helps calculate optimal installation sites for new and existing equipment, based on InfraStruXure Central’s real-time data on average and peak electrical consumption. It can also factor in heat output data from the InRow cooling utilization utility.
Change Manager helps track the status of physical changes such as installing, moving or retiring equipment. A mobile-device version adds barcode scanning to track IT devices from the time of their arrival on-site via a virtual storeroom.
“Change Manager enables us to streamline our process for changes in our data centers and to accurately track status for tasks such as adding new equipment, moving existing equipment and decommissioning retired equipment,” said Norm Fjeldheim, senior vice president and chief information officer for QUALCOMM Inc. “Capacity Manager provides a dynamic view into data center resources and, most importantly, ensures data accuracy to improve management decision making.”
Together, APC said, they ease planning and deployment of rack equipment and ensure the accuracy of work orders.
APC, formerly American Power Conversion, is a member with MGE UPS Systems of West Kingston-based APC-MGE, the $3 billion critical power and cooling system business unit of of Rueil-Malmaison, France-based Schneider Electric (Paris: SU.PA). For more information, go to www.apc-mge.com.
