The Grass-Telefactor Product Group of Astro-Med Inc., based in West Warwick, is introducing wireless versions of its Comet and AURA series EEG amplifier systems.
Short for electro-encephalogram, an EEG measures the brain’s electrical activity, usually to try to detect abnormalities. Traditionally, the EEG recording gear consists of an amplifier, power supply, PC, and other components, all on a roll-around cabinet. Now, utilizing wireless technology, the small Grass-Telefactor amplifier sits near the patient, without a physical connection to the PC. The computer, monitor, and cart are located somewhere outside the room, where the EEG is observed.

Glass-Telefactor says the wireless technology will help to reduce clutter in operating rooms and intensive-care units, where medical equipment can crowd out the staff. The wireless configuration also removes obtrusive cables that can get in the technician’s way when tending to a patient.
Grass-Telefactor designs, manufactures, and sells advanced systems for EEGs, sleep monitoring, long-term epilepsy monitoring and OR/ICU neuromonitoring, as well as supplies, accessories, and a broad range of products for neurophysiological research.
