(BUSINESS WIRE)–Astro-Med, Inc., a manufacturer of high tech specialty printing systems, electronic medical instrumentation, and test and measurement instruments, reported a net loss of $698,000 equal to 16 cents per share, on sales of $11,731,000 for the third quarter ending October 28. The company reported net income of $410,000, equal to 9 cents per common share, on sales of $11,045,000, for the same period a year ago.
During the nine-month period of the current fiscal year, the company reported a loss of $272,000 equal to 6 cents per share on sales of $37,325,000. Earnings were $410,000, equal to 9 cents per common share on sales of $32,507,000, for the same period a year ago.

Astro-Med’s export sales for the quarter declined 12 percent compared with the third quarter of the previous year, which it attributes to the continued strengthening of the dollar. The company said it plans to introduce new lower priced products in order to combat this problem. It also said that it expects to report a profit for the year.
Yesterday, Astro-Med’s directors declared the regular quarterly cash dividend of 4 cents per common share, payable on January 3, 2001 to shareholders of record on December 15, 2000.
