Landmark Medical Center in Woonsocket announced that, at a negotiation session this morning, it agreed to extend its contract with Blue Cross & Blue Shield of Rhode Island for 30 days.
“Officials of Blue Cross Blue Shield of R.I. have asked Landmark Medical Center to agree to a 30-day extension of the provider reimbursement contract currently in place with the hospital, to allow more time for further negotiations,” Gary J. Traube, Landmark’s president and CEO, said in a midday statement.

Gov. Donald L. Carcieri and U.S. Rep. Patrick J. Kennedy have asked the medical center to agree, Traube said, “and the leadership of the hospital will be doing so.”
The long-running talks are “now in an active phase,” he said. “We want to provide every opportunity for a quick and equitable settlement to take place so that our patients and those we serve in the community will have no interruption of service.
“We are hopeful a settlement will be reached very soon.”
