Blue Cross of MA pledges $3 mil to health institutes

Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) announced Tuesday that the company will pledge $3 million to Massachusetts hospitals and to the Institute for Healthcare Improvement (IHI), a not-for-profit organization leading the improvement of health care throughout the world.

BCBSMA will give $500,000 to the IHI to support its national patient safety campaign. IHI programs focus on issues such as clinical outcomes, patient safety, patient satisfaction, office and hospital redesign, health disparities, and health care access. BCBSMA also will give grants totaling $2.5 million to hospitals that apply to the company for funding for quality improvement projects.
