The new home for the medical research laboratories of Brown University and Lifespan was expected to be dedicated today to one of the founders of Brown’s medical school.
The former Clark & Coombs Building in Providence’s Jewelry District will be known as the Galletti Building in honor of Pierre M. Galletti, a former professor of medicine. Galletti died in 1997.

The dedication ceremony today was also an opportunity for Lifespan and Brown to show off the recently renovated building at 55 Claverick St.
The building belongs to Belvoir Properties, Inc., which bought the property last December.
The 62,000-square-foot, four-story building will be a combination of office space and medical research laboratories.
Lifespan and Brown have been collaborating in medical research for years. Many doctors who teach at the medical school are also members of the Lifespan network. This will be the first time the two entities will have a central location for research.
“This is also an ideal location for the hospital campus, which is nearby, and for Brown,” said Susan B. Mouradian, director of development at Brown’s medical school.
Lifespan/Physicians PSO will also have offices in the new space. The PSO, an acronym for professional services organization, is a partnership of independent doctors who practice at Rhode Island, Miriam and Newport hospitals.
