President George W. Bush’s
support in next year’s reelection fell below 50 percent, and
Democratic presidential candidates John Kerry and Joseph Lieberman

Only 45 percent of respondents said they’d back Bush next
year, while 40 percent say they’ll back a Democrat. Fifteen
percent said they’re undecided. Last December, just more than half

The new results suggest the partisan politics conducted prior
to the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks has reasserted itself, the
newspaper said.

For the two Democratic senators, Lieberman had 25 percent
support of 399 Democrats polled, followed by Kerry at 20 percent.
Senator John Edwards and former Senator Gary Hart, who is
exploring a possible run, were tied for third with 8 percent
support, the newspaper said. The poll, conducted Jan. 30 to Feb.
2, had a sampling error of plus or minus 3 percentage points.
