David J. Wudyka
David J. Wudyka recently received a Lifetime Achievement Award from the American Compensation Association (ACA, now known as World at Work). The award recognizes a member’s “ongoing commitment and contribution to the compensation and benefits profession.” Wudyka is the founder and president of Westminster Associates, a human resources and compensation consulting firm based in Woonsocket. He founded a local affiliate of the ACA in 1990 and served as its president for nine years. He was formerly employed as the compensation, training and development manager at Raytheon Company’s former Submarine Signal Division in Portsmouth. He received an MBA in organization and management from Syracuse University in Syracuse, N.Y., and is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island’s College of Industrial Engineering where he received a BA in industrial engineering.

James H. Waterman
James H. Waterman, Jr. has been named chief financial officer/chief operating officer for the Rhode Island Economic Development Corporation in Providence. His responsibilities will include overseeing daily operations and activities of all departments and personnel. He was previously employed as vice president and chief financial officer for the FEC Mortgage Corporation in Foxboro, Mass. and senior vice president for the BankBoston Corporation in Boston, Mass. Waterman hold a Master of Science degree in applied management from Lesley College in Cambridge, Mass. and a Bachelor of Science degree in business administration from Bryant College in Smithfield. He is a member of SWAP (Stop Wasting Abandoned Property), serving as treasurer and on the organization’s board of directors, and he resides in Johnston.

Scott Connery
Scott Connery has joined the Rhode Island Convention Center as catering sales manager. He will be responsible for local catering sales and banquet planning. He was formerly employed as event manager with Special Events, Inc., in Worcester, Mass. and food and beverage director at the Holiday Inn in downtown Providence. Connery has also worked with the management teams of Raphael Bar-Risto and Phelps Grace Corporation, the prior owners of the Capital Grille and Hemenways Seafood Restaurant. He holds a BS in hospitality administration from Johnson and Wales University.

Gus Velleco has been promoted to district manager at the East Providence office of General Electric Capital Assurance Company, the long term care division Of GE Financial Assurance. His responsibilities will include the training and supervision of the agents in the Rhode Island area, as well as meeting and surpassing sales and recruiting goals.

Robert G. Dinwoodie
Robert G. Dinwoodie, DO, MBA, FACOEP, FACEP has been selected to serve as the medical director for emergency medicine at Kent Hospital in Warwick. He is the former chairman of emergency medicine at South Jersey Hospital. Dinwoodie is a graduate of the University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine. He completed his internship at Botsford General Hospital in Detroit, Mich., followed by a residency at the Albert Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia, Pa., where he also completed a fellowship in academic and administrative emergency medicine. He is board certified in emergency medicine, and earned an MBA in health and medical service administration at Widener University in Chester, Pa.

Marie Bouchard
Marie Bouchard, director of sales and marketing for the Radisson Airport Hotel in Warwick, has been named a Paul Harris Fellow by the Rotary Foundation of Rotary International. She was selected by the Warwick Rotary for her service as chairman of the Conimicut Village Festival, a fundraising event held in Warwick to benefit local charities. The award designates Bouchard as a “Multiple Paul Harris Fellow.” She previously received the award for her service to the Fall River Rotary Club in Mass. Bouchard is a member of the Leadership Rhode Island’s Upsilon Class (2000), the Greater Providence-Warwick Convention and Visitors Bureau and the Central Rhode Island and Greater Providence Chamber of Commerce.

Robert S. Messinger, Jr.
Robert S. Messinger, Jr. has been appointed as account executive for Braman & White Insurance in Newport in the sales and service department. He has previously served as vice president for Starkweather & Shepley Insurance Brokerage in East Providence and was the owner and president of C.D. Paige Co. in East Providence. Messinger received a Bachelor of Economics from the University of Rhode Island. He currently serves on the board of directors for the Norman Bird Sanctuary and is a board member of the Alumni Association and Colleges of Arts and Sciences at the University of Rhode Island. He has served as a past board member of the Rhode Island Special Olympics and the 100 Club of R.I. He is a resident of Newport.

MaryEllen Cobb
Maryellen Cobb has been promoted to technical manager of the vinyls group at Teknor Apex Company in Pawtucket. She will be responsible for all of the technical activities of Teknor’s PVC business including research and development, technical service and process engineering. Cobb joined Teknor Apex in 1995 as a PVC process engineer, moving to PVC compound research and development and remaining in that position until the present. She was formerly employed by the Hoechst Celanese Corporation in Coventry and the Center for Pollution Prevention at the University of Rhode Island, from where she graduated with a degree in chemical engineering. She is a member of the Society of Plastics Engineers and a resident of Warwick.
REFINING
John Whitney
John Whitney has been named chief chemist at Gannon & Scott, Inc. in Cranston. He will be responsible for reviewing, improving and documenting analytical methods and increasing the scope of laboratory services. Whitney was formerly employed as chief chemist and technical manager at Handy and Harman Refining Group in Attleboro, Mass. He is an active member of the International Precious Metals Institute, directing the IPMI task force on assaying for several years. He is a resident of Attleboro, Mass.
