Jim Beardsworth
Jim Beardsworth has joined Cote & D’Ambrosio of North Kingstown as director of public relations. His responsibilities will include the management of all public relations and public affairs activities for the agency’s clients. He will also serve as part of the agency’s creative and copywriting team for advertising campaigns and other marketing initiatives. He was formerly employed as deputy director of communications for Rhode Island Governor Lincoln Almond, press secretary for former Rhode Island Lieutenant Governor Bernard Jackovny and as a reporter for the Providence Journal. He is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a bachelor of arts degree in journalism. He resides in North Kingstown with his wife Annemarie.

BANKING

Kevin M. Oates
Kevin M. Oates has been appointed Chief Operating Officer at Van Liew Trust Company of Providence and Newport. His responsibilities will include overseeing all daily administrative and operational activities for the Providence and Newport offices. Oates has been with Van Liew since 1991 and is also a partner and Chief Operating Officer of Van Liew Capital, Inc. He has a bachelor’s with a concentration in accounting from Boston University and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants.

 

Knud Hellested II
Knud Hellested II has joined FIRSTFED as banking office manager for its newest banking office in downtown Providence. He was formerly employed as branch manager at Bank Rhode Island’s Johnston office. Hellested is a member of the Johnston Lions and ambassador for the Northern Rhode Island Chamber of Commerce. He earned his BS in finance from Valparaiso University in Indiana. He resides in Barrington with his wife and two children.

 

 

 

COMMUNITY SERVICE

Gilbert P. Bricault
Gilbert P. Bricault, CRB has been promoted to president at DeWolfeCares, Inc., the community service and charitable foundation of the DeWolfe Companies. He will be responsible for support of DeWolfe House in Providence and DeWolfe/Waltham House in Massachusetts, raising contributions and making company donations throughout New England and all company-wide philanthropic and regional charity events. He previously served as president of J.W. Riker Real Estate, which merged with DeWolfe in early 1999. Bricault is a graduate of Northeastern University and the Broker’s Management Council, where he earned his Certified Residential Broker designation, and has been involved with the real estate industry since 1978. He is a member of the Providence National Association of REALTORS.

 

EDUCATION

Dr. Janet Trubatch
Dr. Janet Trubatch, treasurer of the board of trustees and development officer of the Muldoon Community Development Center in Anchorage, Alaska, has been appointed vice provost for graduate studies, research and outreach at the University or Rhode Island. Her responsibilities will include the administration of the executive office of the URI graduate school, serving as the University’s chief research administrator and advocating for URI outreach efforts. She will serve as a member of the Council of Deans and the provost’s staff to help with a broad range of issues. Trubatch holds and undergraduate degree in physics and mathematics from the Polytechnic Institute of New York, A Ph.D. in physics from Brandeis University in Waltham, Mass. and a MBA from the University of Miami.

 

John A. Bucci has been named dean of the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development (FSEHD) at Rhode Island College. He is a professor of foundations of education with 16 years of experience at RIC (the past eight years as a full-time faculty member), including administrative positions such as acting dean and associate dean of FSEHD, acting dean and assistant dean of the School of Continuing Education and Community Service, director of School Services and director of the Teacher Corps project. Bucci was formerly employed as principal of the North Providence Adult School, teaching fellow at Boston University and science teacher at North Providence High School. He holds a doctorate in education from Boston University, a master’s from RIC and a bachelor’s from Providence College. He is a resident of Greenville.

 

GRAPHIC DESIGN

Matthew Wojtaszek
Matthew Wojtaszek has joined WHY Design, Ltd. as graphic designer. He will be responsible for designing packaging graphics for toy industry clients, as well as brochures, logos, catalogs, and other printed materials for sports and corporate clients. Wojtaszek previously designed CD and cassette packaging and associated materials at Disc Makers in Shamong, New Jersey and worked as an intern at Orbit Integrated of Hockessin, Delaware and Graphtec in Morristown, New Jersey. He earned his bachelor of arts degree in graphic design from Moravian College (Bethlehem, Pa.) in 1998. He is a resident of East Greenwich.

 

 

FINANCIAL SERVICES

Joseph K. Cembrola
Crosby Benefit Systems, Inc. of Newton, Massachusetts, has opened an office in Providence to provide full-service benefits administration and benefits consulting to southeastern New England companies. Crosby consulting services vice president Joseph K. Cembrola has been named to head the new regional office. He was formerly employed as corporate benefits director at Fleet Financial Group, where he was responsible for the design, implementation and administration of all employee benefit programs. Cembrola is a resident of Bristol.

 

MANUFACTURING

Michael J. Sullivan
Michael J. Sullivan has been appointed vice president and chief technology officer at Astro-Med, Inc. in West Warwick. He has been employed by Astro-Med since 1983, when he was hired as an electronic engineer in the research and development department. He went on to build and lead a team of electronic and software engineers. Sullivan is a graduate of the University of Rhode Island with a BSEE and a MSEE. He currently resides in Portsmouth with his wife and two children.

 

 

TRANSPORTATION

Harris Weiner
Harris Weiner has been named executive counsel at the Rhode Island Department of Transportation (RIDOT). He will be responsible for leading the legal and real estate departments. Weiner has served as deputy executive counsel to Governor Lincoln Almond since 1995, concentrating on contract negotiations, legislation and litigation. He has previously served as judicial law clerk in the Rhode Island Supreme Court and the Rhode Island Federal District Court and trial attorney with Adler Pollock & Sheehan in Providence and Boston’s Burns and Levinson. He is a graduate of Bowdoin College, received his Juris Doctorate. from Washington University in St. Louis and earned a master’s at Bryant College. A resident of Pawtucket, Weiner is a trustee of the Providence Country Day School and an adjunct law professor at the Community College of Rhode Island.
