PROVIDENCE – Providence restaurateur Sylvia Moubayed, the proprietor of CAV Restaurant in Providence, has died unexpectedly at the age of 80.
She died at her home in Falmouth on Cape Cod.
Moubayed opened CAV in 1991 as an antiques emporium and café. It gained fame in the early 2000s when culinary icon Julia Child discovered its modern cuisine amidst esoteric surroundings.
The restaurant received numerous accolades over the years both local and national.
A manager at the restaurant stated that CAV would remain closed for the remainder of the day but plans are to reopen Thursday.
