Ch. 6 to extend early-morning news show

PROVIDENCE – WLNE-TV ABC Channel 6 today announced it will be launching the region’s only 7 a.m. live local newscast, beginning Monday, Sept. 29.

“Good Morning Providence” – hosted by Doreen Scanlon, Tom Langford and meteorologist Steve Cascione – currently runs from 5 to 7 a.m. each weekday on Channel 6 and is simulcast on the station’s 24/7 cable news channel: Cox Channel 5. The show will expand to a third hour with the same anchors that will be broadcast exclusively on Cox Cable Channel 5.

“We are delighted to provide live, local news, weather and traffic in this exclusive format,” Steve Doerr, vice president and general manager of WLNE-TV, said in a statement today. “We have seen solid growth with our morning newscasts, and this additional broadcast will give viewers what they’ve been asking for – more local news in the morning.”

WLNE-TV and Cox Communications have an exclusive partnership to provide news content 24/7 to Cox subscribers throughout the region. The cable company rebroadcasts all of WLNE’s news programming throughout the broadcast day on local Cox Cable Channel 5.
