Providence Mayor David Cicilline will officially kick off “Providence Shines” – a spring cleaning and civic engagement campaign – on Saturday, April 17, with a series of neighborhood cleanups throughout the city.
Community groups in several neighborhoods are holding cleanups today as part of the “Providence Shines” campaign. The city of Providence, in association with Groundwork Providence, is providing tools, trash bags and large-volume trash hauling for participating cleanups.

The city’s cleanup efforts began this past week with a citywide street sweeping schedule through the month of June. According to the mayor, residents and businesses can contribute to the city’s effort by sweeping sand and winter debris from their sidewalks into the street before the scheduled dates for their ward (schedule available online at www.providenceri.com/publicworks/street_
sweep.htm).
Additionally, the city’s Department of Public Works will conduct a yard waste pick up drive from April 26 to May 28. Yard waste must be disposed of in large brown paper bags, available at any hardware store, or in a sturdy container. Residents are urged not to mix yard waste with trash.
