Providence Mayor David N. Cicilline recently implemented the city’s traditional relaxed parking program, hoping to make life easier for holiday shoppers in the city. The program allows for longer trips to Providence by extending time limits at parking meters and time limited parking spaces in certain parts of the city.
“I want to make the holiday experience as exciting and stress-free as possible for residents and visitors to the city, by relaxing parking restrictions,” Cicilline said in a release.

The relaxed parking program began Tuesday, Nov. 30, and will run through Jan. 1, 2005.
No tickets for overtime violations will be issued at metered parking spaces or at parking spaces with time limitations in the following areas between the hours of 11 a.m. and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday:
– Downtown Providence (bounded by Steeple Street, west to Route 95; 95 South to 195; 195 East to Pine Street; Pine Street to Wickenden Street; north on South Main Street to North Main Street at Steeple Street, exclusive of the court district)
– South Main Street, from Wickenden Street to Packet Street
– North Main Street, from Thomas Street to Park Row
– Wayland Square
– Thayer Street
Cars parked in illegal spaces, including crosswalks and tow zones, will still be ticketed during this period.
