Cox Communications received a “certificate of authority to operate” yesterday from the Rhode Island Division of Public Utilities and Carriers, the third and final regulatory approval Cox needs to offer residents of Bristol County voice, video and data services.
Starting Jan. 15, Cox will begin accepting requests for installations from residents living in the northern half of Barrington from Veterans Memorial Park to the north.

Cox first filed for permission to offer competitive cable services in Bristol County in April 2000. Full Channel, the existing cable provider in Bristol County, has fought the application every step of the way. Company officials say they will appeal the decision in Superior Court.
