CVS CEO and his wife honored by United Way

PROVIDENCE — CVS Pharmacy Chairman, President and CEO Tom Ryan and his wife Cathy were recently honored by United Way of Southeastern New England for outstanding personal investment in the community.

The Ryans received the 2000-2001 Alexis de Tocqueville Society Award at a dinner attended by more than 100 community philanthropists. The Ryans are the first million dollar contributors to the United Way of Southeastern New England, placing them in Alexis de Tocqueville Society Million Dollar Roundtable, a national organization comprised of 300 philanthropists who have made similar commitments to their communities. Other members include Bill and Melinda Gates and singer Gloria Estefan.

Mr. Ryan serves on the boards of many community and civic organizations, and is honorary co-chair of the 2001 Hasbro Children’s Hospital Ball to benefit the Draw a Breath pediatric asthma awareness campaign. He is also a member of the Rhode Island Public Expenditures Council and is co-chair of the Rhode Island Economic Policy Council. Mrs. Ryan has been a Girl Scouts of America Leader and is involved in charities and fundraisers such as the American Heart Association, Community Prep School and Trinity Repertory Theater.
