CVS reports 8.5 percent increase in same-store sales

WOONSOCKET, R.I.– Drug store chain CVS Corp. posted an 8.5 percent increase in same-store sales for the month of April — with pharmacy same-store sales up 13.9 percent — compared to the same period last year.

CVS said total sales for April increased 11.4 percent to $1.68 billion, compared to $1.51 billion in the year-ago period. Total pharmacy sales represented 66 percent of total company sales for the month, the company said.

The company’s year-to-date same store sales have increased 10.6 percent over the same period last year, with pharmacy same store sales up 16.7 percent over the year ago period. Total sales for the year-to-date period increased 13.1 percent to $7.06 billion, compared to $6.25 billion during the year-ago period.

As of April 28 of this year, CVS said it operates 4,126 retail and specialty pharmacy stores in 31 states and the District of Columbia.
