DBR provides agents more learning time

PROVIDENCE – The R.I. Department of Business Regulation is giving licensed real estate agents and brokers an extra four months to complete their continuing education credits.
In May 2009, the department bumped the number of hours required to 24 from 18. Neena Savage, an attorney for the department, said after the department adopted the amended regulations some agents told the department that confusion remained in the industry.
“We wanted to give people time comply,” she told Providence Business News, explaining the decision to grant the extension.
Agents and brokers must still renew their licenses by April 30, but will now have until Aug. 30, 2010, to complete the necessary education requirements.
Savage said the online renewal form has been adjusted to ask agents and brokers to promise to take the credits by the end of August rather than asking applicants to confirm they have already completed all the credits. Existing licenses expire May 1.
