Youthbuild gets $400,000 infusion
For the second consecutive year, the Providence Plan was awarded a $400,000 federal grant for Youthbuild Providence, an educational program which also helps youths develop on-site construction skills. The award, from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, will enable 60 participants to learn on-site construction site building two single-family homes. The program will provide comprehensive and integrated efforts to increase the academic, leadership and vocational skill level of the trainees.

By leveraging cash in-kind services, Youthbuild Providence has $479,693 for the program, which was initiated last year with the first $400,000 grant.

According to the Providence Plan, Youth-build Providence is an educational program designed to erode self-destructive habits of disenfranchised youth while instilling in them a sense of personal pride and commitment to community development. It uniquely addresses the status of unemployed young men and women who have dropped out of school and have no apparent path to a productive future.

The Providence Plan, headquartered on Pine Street was formed in 1992 as a joint venture among city and state government, the university community and the private sector.

Network Six signs deal with Allaire
Network Six has joined Allaire Corporation’s Alliance Partner program. Allaire is a provider of Internet software products and services for companies building their business on the Web.

Membership in this program affords Network Six added exposure and authority as a specialist in Allaire’s ColdFusion Web application server software. After evaluating Cold-Fusion, Network Six believes that it is an excellent choice for bringing back-end data out to the Internet. The company has recently hired several experiences ColFusion programmers and project managers. In addition, several members of Network Six’s existing technical staff are completing an intensive ColdFusion training program. A few weeks ago Network Six hosted the first meeting of the Providence ColdFusion Users Group and plans to remain actively involved with this group. The company is also redeveloping its own corporate Internet and Intranet sites using ColdFusion technology.
